For my safety....really?

I know that police officers mean well and truly want to help protect the citizens within their communities (or at least I hope they do) but I have to comment on the irony of the situation I found myself in today. I was merrily on my way home from visiting a friend, just flowing with traffic on the freeway (394E) when I was pulled over for speeding. Now the officer was the nicest guy possible and appeared to have my best interest in mind but even he seemed leery to pull over and get out onto the narrow shoulder of the freeway while semi trucks and other vehicles whizzed by only inches from our cars. After managing to get out of his car and carefully make his way to the passenger side of my car, he proceeded to give me my ticket with the warning to drive more slowly as it was safer especially with kids in the car. I nodded politely and even thanked him for doing his job but couldn't help but think of how ironic the situation was pertaining to safety. It felt much more dangerous for us to be parked on the narrow shoulder of a freeway with the gush of wind rocking the SUV back and forth as semi after semi roared past us. Not to mention the difficulty in actually merging back onto the freeway from a dead standstill......Ok, I may be slightly bitter about receiving the ticket but I like to think I am just logically pointing out the truth of the matter: if it really was my safety they were so concerned about, you'd think they'd focus their skills in areas other than pulling people over on freeways.
By the way, with an obedient heart (and not wanting to break a record with two tickets in a day) I put on my cruise control and drove most of the way home that way...until my nerves were shot from constantly looking in my rear view mirror at all the fast approaching cars swerving around me because I wasn't flowing with traffic. Seriously...what is more dangerous?!?

Good stinkin' point. Too bad you couldn't tell him that. Sorry about the ticket...
